Yes, I know it’s been too long since I have written a post.  Where have I been?!  I never went anywhere, I’ve just been busy with clients. As I write this blog post, I have to laugh at myself.  I’m always getting on my clients about not writing weekly blog posts. I tell them that it’s very important that your customers see your knowledge of certain issues.

2016 was a crazy year.  It was my Year Of Yes.  I took some risks and stepped outside of my comfort zone many times.  I started working with small businesses managing their social media platforms.  I love what I do.  Looking for more clients (hint, hint).  I’ll just leave my People Per Hour profile here.  I am working on a new website too.  This is something I didn’t think I would be doing last year at this time.  What a difference a year makes.

About my weight loss journey.  I haven’t really been concentrating on that.  I’ve been trying to make wise decisions and not eat too much.  I basically eat what I want, no snacking and I work out a lot less.  I’m finding that my body has been responding to that.  I have lost some weight and without depriving myself.

I do miss working out on a daily basis.  Also as a woman of a certain age, I know I should be working out with weights more to build muscle.  I will get back to doing that, but instead of working out for hours a day, I will do maybe 30-45 minutes per day.  With my body I have discovered that less is more.

I will try to do monthly updates because weekly doesn’t seem to work for me.  So I just want to say Happy New Year to everyone and let’s make this year better than last year!

beautyfithealth.comWell, another busy week at work and I went to the Duran Duran/CHIC concert with my friend. It was great to see her and the concert was awesome!  If you have a chance to see them on their summer tour, do it!  You will not be disappointed.  Ok, it’s time for the beautyfithealth.com update.

In the last post I said I would be doing the Fitnessblender.com Booty and Abs workout plans.  I did well until this week.  My friend and I did walk a lot and danced for two hours at the concert, so it wasn’t a total loss this week.

What I have to concentrate on is not working until the work gets done.  To take a break and workout for at least 30 minutes and then get back to work.  Sometimes I work through lunch and then by the time I’m finished it’s time to start cooking dinner and finishing laundry.  The last thing I want to do is work out.

My diet has been good.  I try to vary my meals each day so I won’t get bored.  Using the 80/20 rule seems to work well for me.

I have been able to button a pair of pants that were too small for me.  Yay, for me! What I’m doing is working, but I have to be more consistent.

I will continue with the Fitnessblender.com workouts and try to keep my diet as clean as possible.  I still have a class reunion in less that 4 weeks.  I think what I’m doing is making a difference.  I’m still drinking the apple cider vinegar in the morning and drinking a ton of water every day.

I have been extremely busy with work.  I’m so sorry that I haven’t updated my progress.  But, I’m also happy to be working as a Social Media Manager/Marketer.  This has been my dream for the past couple of years. I thought it was finally time to give you an update for beautyfithealth.com.

I have been struggling with eating right and getting in workouts.  Sometimes I’m so busy, I forget to eat lunch.  I am going to make an effort to start the FitnessBlender.com workout plans again.  I’m running out of time.  The Duran Duran show is in a couple of weeks and my high school reunion is in August.

The plan is:  (triumphant horns) I will workout with the FitnessBlender.com Booty and Abs programs.  I like that I can just plug the workouts into the FitnessBlender.com calendar and know exactly what I’m doing for the day.  For the past month I have been drinking a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in water with cayenne pepper every morning to help increase my metabolism.  Apple cider vinegar also helps to get rid of acne.  You can read more about that here.

I have also been eating more avocado, because it helps to get rid of belly fat.  I will make sure to have a protein shake after my workout and try to eat as clean as possible.  I have given up artificial sweeteners and my beloved Coke Zero already.

I Need To Get Fit! No More Procrastinating!

Yes, I need to get fit.  I have a Duran Duran concert in July and class reunion in August.  More than likely I will be going to the DD concert with my friend Paula.  That means we will probably get backstage and I want to look good for my boys.

This would be my first class reunion.  I haven’t seen most of my classmates (outside of Facebook pics)  since the 80s.  I want to look great.

The first step to get fit is getting out! Now that the weather is finally getting better, I plan on doing more walking and maybe some jogging.  I also have dozens of fitness DVDs that have been collecting dust, because most of my workouts have been online.

Years ago I did a different DVD every day challenge.  It was called 30 Day No Repeat. You can see the first week’s schedule here. I’m going to be doing that again.  I will be doing the exact same schedule.

Get Fit

In my recent post I Didn’t Worry About Gaining Weight During My Vacation, I talked about how much walking we did during our vacation.  I experienced a lot of pain in my legs every day.  Recently I started taking Omega-3s to combat that pain.  I have read that Omega-3s are essential for my heart health, but they are also great for reducing inflammation and joint pain.

One of my favorite fitness gurus PJ Wren also included Omega-3 as one of the best vitamins you can take.  Read her post here.

I’m taking flaxseed oil capsules, eating more fish (more sushi)  and adding flaxseed to my food.  I have less leg pain and I don’t get stiff after sitting for a while.  So, I will be keeping Omega-3s in my diet permanently.

The Groundhog was so wrong

This Weather Is Killing My Fitness Motivation

Can you believe it’s April already!  I know it doesn’t feel like it, but it is spring.  We had 6 inches of snow last week in Toronto.  Yes, I know other parts of North America are dealing with the same thing.  That groundhog was so wrong.  I’m not listening to him anymore.  Can I blame him for my lack of fitness motivation?!

This weather is killing my fitness motivation! It’s hard for me to get motivated when the weather is like this, but before you know it, it will be hot and I’ll be regretting my procrastination.

Last week I started to get back on track with some Yoga.  It felt good to do a little something.  If I want to get more toned, I have to start weight training and cardio.  My favorite form of cardio is walking.  I did a lot of that on my vacation and I wrote about it last week.  The post is here.

I want to get outside more now.  My body is craving it.  I did look at the weather forecast for the next couple of weeks and it looks promising.

Fitness motivation

I’m drinking my protein shakes again.  I made a really delicious one with pears, peaches, strawberries and banana.  The protein powder I used is one of my favorites.  You can read a review of it here.  I also love using cashew milk in my smoothies.  It adds a creaminess to it without a lot of calories.  I reviewed one brand of cashew milk here.

I’m just taking it one day at a time.  I have a couple of events I want to look good for.  The first one is the Duran Duran concert in July.  The second one is my high school reunion in August.

Time’s a wastin’!  Let’s get moving!

I Didn’t Worry About Weight Gain During My Vacation

I haven’t worked out at all or watch my diet during our vacation.  I had fun and gave myself a break.   I didn’t worry about weight gain at all.  I just ate what I wanted and walked a lot.  It felt so good!

Spent our spring break New York, Boston and Easter weekend in my hometown, Chicago. Walking is my favorite form of cardio, so I loved keeping fit this way.

 


My Fitbit has died.  Luckily I was able to track my steps with the Google Fit App.  I don’t have to open the app to use it.  It keeps track of the steps on my phone and tablet while in my purse.

It’s so simple to use.  The app also tells you how many calories you burn, active time and distance.

Hello, I wanted to just give you a quick update.  I’ve been so busy with my online classes, blogs and being a stay-at-home mom, I’ve been neglecting to update.  Sorry.

I am so happy the groundhog didn’t see his shadow.  Although this hasn’t been a bad winter (knocks on wood), I’m ready for spring and spending more time outdoors.

I have started working out again.  I’ve been doing the Fitnessblender.com FB Booty workout plan.  I do that workout before lunch and I do the BodyRock Intermediate Bootcamp Workout after dinner.  I’m so sedentary lately, that working out twice a day makes me feel better.  It usually adds up to about 45 minutes of working out a day.

Before and during my workouts I drink Venice Beach Fat Burning Fitness Tea.  It gives me energy and also detoxes my body.  It has a pleasant taste too.

How has your new year been so far?!  I’m trying to get back into the fitness mindset.  It helps when I have a new gadget to try out.  My new toy is the Ozeri Digital Pedometer.

The pedometer records steps, distance, calories and time.  It has an advanced Tri-Axis Technology or 3D Motion.  Which means it can provide an accurate recording of steps horizontally, vertically or on its side.   The Ozeri Digital Pedometer is small enough to slip in a pocket, attach to a belt or it can go in a purse.  It can count up to one million steps. There’s a 7 day memory, so you can review the previous day’s activity.

The set-up was very easy.  I was able to add in my information in minutes.  I really like the slim design and the split display, so I can see my steps, the time and day all on one screen.  It also has a blue backlight for night viewing.

Change and Opportunity

2016 is still young, but I have a feeling this will be a great year!  I’m trying to keep a positive outlook and continue to remember to say yes when I feel like saying no to something that challenges me.

David Bowie died on January 10, 2016.  I have listened to his music and payed tribute to him on social media a lot in recent days.  I have been a fan since I was a child.  I loved his music, but most of all I loved his uniqueness and his creativity.  He didn’t care what anyone thought of him.  He never stayed the same.  He was always evolving. He was his own person and always thought outside the box.

I remember being so inspired by him after visiting the David Bowie Is exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and now his death has challenged me to do the same.  To say yes to my creativity.  To not care what others think of me.  To be open to change and opportunity.  To evolve and not be afraid.  To continue to think outside of the box.

 

 

I haven’t forgotten about working out and healthy eating.  I have to make a conscious effort to stop what I’m doing every single day to work out and have healthy meals.  I have an online part-time job, taking online classes and actively searching for work in social media marketing.  During the month of December I wasn’t eating healthy or working out.  On top of that I became more sedentary.  I noticed myself getting doughy. So, I work/study for a couple of hours and then work out.  I find myself not snacking during the day because I’m so busy, which is great.

I’m not really following a diet.  Trying to keep my calories between 1500-1800 calories a day.  I’m doing Fitness Blender workouts now.  I’m doing FB Booty and FB Abs now.  You can find out more about their plans here.

I’m also taking time out of the day to meditate.  I feel better and more confident when I do.

I want to start bringing you all a recipe of the week.  Foods that are full of flavor helps me to stay on track. I made a wonderful Slow Cooker Chicken Tikka yesterday.  The recipe is from Cooking Light.  You can find the recipe here.
