How has your new year been so far?!  I’m trying to get back into the fitness mindset.  It helps when I have a new gadget to try out.  My new toy is the Ozeri Digital Pedometer.

The pedometer records steps, distance, calories and time.  It has an advanced Tri-Axis Technology or 3D Motion.  Which means it can provide an accurate recording of steps horizontally, vertically or on its side.   The Ozeri Digital Pedometer is small enough to slip in a pocket, attach to a belt or it can go in a purse.  It can count up to one million steps. There’s a 7 day memory, so you can review the previous day’s activity.

The set-up was very easy.  I was able to add in my information in minutes.  I really like the slim design and the split display, so I can see my steps, the time and day all on one screen.  It also has a blue backlight for night viewing.

Ozeri Total Body Scale

I was asked by Moderna Housewares LLC to try out one of their products.  I decided to try the Total Body Scale.  I haven’t had a scale in my home for well over a year.  I’ve been keeping track of my weight by the way my clothes fit and body measurements.

The scale is the Ozeri Touch II.  The scale a total body scale which means it not only tells your weight but also calculates your fat ratio, water ratio, muscle mass and bone mass.

The scale is very easy to use.  First you program the memory profile.  You can put in up to eight profiles.  The profile includes age and height.  If you perform at least 14 hours of physical activity like me, you would choose female athlete. The scale can hold up to 440 pounds.

Step on the scale to get your weight.  Stay on and it will flash the fat ratio, water ratio, muscle mass and bone mass.  I think it’s more accurate to use this scale than to depend on BMI.

It also has a Tare mode that can be used to weigh something you can carry, like an infant or luggage. I highly recommend the Ozeri Touch II Total Body Scale and will be using it weekly to keep track of my weight.

I’m winter weary but I love this picture

I’m always looking for
ways to boost my metabolism.  I found this
on apple cider vinegar and it has a couple of recipes. I never thought to put the ACV on sweet potato chips. I made them and they were delish.  I make my own sweet potato chips often and
this is a good way to get more ACV in my diet.

Another great way to
get the metabolism going is to drink Matcha green tea.  It has so many health benefits and tastes
great. I like putting it in smoothies too.

Featured workout DVDKathy Smith Weight Loss Workout DVD was one of the first workout videos I ever bought back in the early
1990s. It has cardio and strength. The workout is broken into sections. You can
do them all or just a few. I liked this workout VHS tape so much I bought it on
DVD. It’s great for beginners and if you want to make it more advanced you can
use heavier dumbbells.

This Week in Beauty, Fitness & Health: February 16-20, 2015

This week went by very quickly. I’m tired of winter. Can we have spring now?! I attended a great interactive webinar by the Go Fit Gals. The webinar was about Fitness and Menopause. Lots of useful information in this webinar. You can view it below:

Speaking of menopause, I’m in peri-menopause right now and I’m all about getting rid of my belly. There was an article this week about burning more belly fat while on a run.  Of course they mention intervals. That’s really the only way I do cardio now.  It’s either HIIT or Tabata for me. Read the article here to find more tips.

I’m not the only one using serums now. Serums seem to be all the rage in skin care. This article Does Your Skin Need A Serum? lists some of the best serums, the benefits and how to use them. I’m using a product from Palmer’s right now that I really like. It has Retinol, Vitamin E and Vitamin C.

I started a detox this week. I found this detox on Jovanka Ciares Facebook page. It’s a 3 day winter detox. I thought I would give it a try. The first day went great. The next morning I could barely function. After I took the kids to school, I basically just stayed on the couch for several hours. I was nauseous, my eyes were watery and my head felt like it was going to explode.

The only detox I have completed successfully was the Go Fit Gals 3 Day Reset  I would feel great the first day. Second day in the morning I would feel like I had the flu, but by the afternoon I would feel fine.  Check out the results from when I completed the 3 Day Reset for the first time here. That didn’t happen with the Jovanka Ciares detox.  So in order to be able to get off the couch and pick up the kids from school, I had to cut it short. I felt bad about not completing it, but I didn’t expect my body to react in that way.

I did notice some good things after the detox. My belly was flatter and I didn’t have any bloating.

Another week where I didn’t work out as much as I would have liked.  I did work out tho;-)  I did a couple of the workouts from the Belly Burn Challenge and continued with the Meditation Challenge. Here are my top 3 workouts this week:

Recipe of the week is from Jovanka Ciares. It’s a Turmeric Drink. Great for these cold evenings. It has anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds.   It’s also delicious. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It also satisfied my sweet tooth or teeth;-) You can find the recipe here.  I added a couple more dates than the recipe called for because the ones I had were kind of small and I added some vanilla.

This Week In Beauty, Fitness & Health: February 9-13, 2015


Cold Toronto
It has been very cold here in Toronto. It’s making me miss Vancouver…well the mild winters. I was sick for much
of the week. Glad the kids have a four day weekend, so I can rest and get better.  
I did read a few good articles. My favorite was the 25 Ways Apple Cider Vinegar Will Change Your Life.  ACV is something I
need to keep on hand all of the time. It can be used for household chores, weight
loss, skin care, you name it!  Check out this morning drink from the The Crunchy Moose. I tried it and it doesn’t taste too bad. It’s the perfect drink to start your day off right!
I’ve been focusing on my eyes quite a bit lately.  I don’t have many wrinkles on my face, but my
eyes are starting to show their age. Allure posted an article Eye Creams Our Editors Swear By. This is something I need to invest in sooner than later.  Also I don’t usually wear makeup unless I’m
going out.  This article from Allure 5 Genius Makeup Tricks For Glasses-Wearers is great. I will make use of my eyelash
curler that has been collecting dust in my drawer. Stat!

This week I have two. First it’s the Go Fit Gals Clean Eating Salad. The second
is Twice-Baked Spaghetti Squash from Kalyn’s Kitchen.  Now this is a clean eating meal! Perfect for date night!
This is where I usually
put my 3 favorite workouts for the week. Because I was sick, I didn’t work
out.  I did continue with the Do You Yoga Meditation Challenge. I look forward to those 10 minutes every day!

This Week In Beauty, Fitness & Health: February 2-6, 2015

This week I read some interesting articles including one on
how to sculpt muscles faster. I’ve been trying to do more strength training and
vary my weights. I’m such a cardio junkie. I did manage to get two strength
training workouts in this week. Yay me!

This article on how to stop the after dinner cravings had
some great tips. I’ve been increasing my protein intake and drinking tea in the
evening. A couple of other things that work for me are brushing my teeth and
living in a three story house. After climbing those stairs all day, I don’t
want to go down anymore. Not even for a piece of cake! LOL  

Another great article on how artificial sweeteners are evil.
Artificial sweeteners are in so many products nowadays. It’s difficult to keep
them out of your diet and they can cause weight gain. Check out the article

Getting ready to spring ahead with some rosy lipstick
shades. You can see the lovely shades here. I’m going hunting for a couple of
them soon! Also one of my favorite beauty bloggers Afrobella just released
her 2015 Beauty and Health Trends Forcast.

Beyonce has done it again and is starting a vegan food delivery service. It’s plant-based and I’m really curious about it.  For the 22 day plan it’s about 99.00. Not a
bad price.

I’m still using the Derma Roller and really excited about
writing the review. Began the Do You Yoga 30 Day Meditation Challenge. Every
time I complete a meditation I post it to my Facebook page. Let me know if you’re
doing it too! I also started the Belly Burn Challenge.I receive a belly burn workout every other day along with diet tips. 

Recipe of the week is the one from PJ one half of the Go Fit Gals. It’s a pretty simple recipe. Just roasted vegetables, Parmesan cheese and baked tofu. Here’s the pic and very easy recipe here

definitely stronger and have more endurance than I had five years ago.

BFH Update: Healthy & Lean 2015

Feeling more serene

Ok, feeling better about things.  Decided to take my destiny into my own hands instead of waiting for someone to discover my talent. Trying to learn as much as I can about social media marketing.  I’ve signed up for courses and webinars. Will try to step out of my comfort zone more.  Part of being healthy is not just physical health, but also mental health.  I have to do what makes me happy.  This year I will do more for myself.  This is the year of self-care. 

I have been continuing with my workouts and eating as clean as possible.  I haven’t been doing as much strength training as I should.  I want to try for 3 strength training workouts a week.  Also walking 10,000 steps a day.

Looking forward to next month when I start the 30 Day Meditation Challenge.  And don’t forget there will be a free Menopause Fitness & Nutrition Webinar from the Go Fit Gals on January 27th.

Happy 2015!

Hope this year has been good to you so far! At the beginning of the year there are so many plans I want to follow. Not interested in losing pounds anymore.  Just want to be healthy and lean. I have decided that starting on Friday January 9th I will begin the Go Fit Gals 3 Day Reset. Always a good start to a new plan. It’s an excellent detox. You can read about my results from the last time I did the 3 Day Reset here. After that I will begin their Go-Fit 21 Plan.

I will do their workouts, but I’ve been enjoying the workouts from Millionaire Hoy.  I found him on Youtube one day when I was looking for fat burning workouts. His workouts are challenging and fun.  Check out his Youtube page here.

Brief update on me the past couple of weeks. I finished Go-Fit 21.  I tried to follow the diet as closely as possible, but I had to bake a ton of Christmas cookies. Oh sweetness at last you always find me.  I probably would have lost more if I didn’t eat those darn Christmas cookies! The first week I had difficulty getting the workouts in but after that it was easier.  ]I look a bit leaner and feel a little stronger. So that’s great!  I will try it again at the beginning of the year.

Ok, ok, I know!

I know I haven’t been posting like I should.  It’s been crazy busy with the kids after school activities and then Thanksgiving.  My dad actually came to Toronto and I spent a lot of quality time with him.  Basically I have been doing good at not gaining any weight.  I have not been working out as much as I should the past couple of weeks.  Mostly because I’m running around with the kids, cleaning the house or cooking.

This past week I have been doing the Go Fit Gals Go-Fit 21 Plan.  They have a bootcamp going on now and I signed up for it.  As with any Go Fit Gals plan it’s pretty simple, eat clean and train dirty.  I’ve been doing ok with eating clean except for a little cake on my daughter’s birthday, but working out has gone out of the window.

I will try to do better next week with the plan and my posting updates.  My dad has gone back to Chicago and the after school activities have stopped for now.
