Change and Opportunity

beautyfithealth.com

2016 is still young, but I have a feeling this will be a great year!  I’m trying to keep a positive outlook and continue to remember to say yes when I feel like saying no to something that challenges me.

David Bowie died on January 10, 2016.  I have listened to his music and payed tribute to him on social media a lot in recent days.  I have been a fan since I was a child.  I loved his music, but most of all I loved his uniqueness and his creativity.  He didn’t care what anyone thought of him.  He never stayed the same.  He was always evolving. He was his own person and always thought outside the box.

I remember being so inspired by him after visiting the David Bowie Is exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and now his death has challenged me to do the same.  To say yes to my creativity.  To not care what others think of me.  To be open to change and opportunity.  To evolve and not be afraid.  To continue to think outside of the box.

I haven’t forgotten about working out and healthy eating.  I have to make a conscious effort to stop what I’m doing every single day to work out and have healthy meals.  I have an online part-time job, taking online classes and actively searching for work in social media marketing.  During the month of December I wasn’t eating healthy or working out.  On top of that I became more sedentary.  I noticed myself getting doughy. So, I work/study for a couple of hours and then work out.  I find myself not snacking during the day because I’m so busy, which is great.

I’m not really following a diet.  Trying to keep my calories between 1500-1800 calories a day.  I’m doing Fitness Blender workouts now.  I’m doing FB Booty and FB Abs now.  You can find out more about their plans here.

I’m also taking time out of the day to meditate.  I feel better and more confident when I do.

I want to start bringing you all a recipe of the week.  Foods that are full of flavor helps me to stay on track. I made a wonderful Slow Cooker Chicken Tikka yesterday.  The recipe is from Cooking Light.  You can find the recipe here.

I would like to end with one of my favorite songs from David Bowie’s new album “Blackstar.”

This Week In Beauty, Fitness & Health: February 9-13, 2015

Cold Toronto
It has been very cold here in Toronto. It’s making me miss Vancouver…well the mild winters. I was sick for much
of the week. Glad the kids have a four day weekend, so I can rest and get better.
I did read a few good articles. My favorite was the 25 Ways Apple Cider Vinegar Will Change Your Life.  ACV is something I
need to keep on hand all of the time. It can be used for household chores, weight
loss, skin care, you name it!  Check out this morning drink from the The Crunchy Moose. I tried it and it doesn’t taste too bad. It’s the perfect drink to start your day off right!
I’ve been focusing on my eyes quite a bit lately.  I don’t have many wrinkles on my face, but my
eyes are starting to show their age. Allure posted an article Eye Creams Our Editors Swear By. This is something I need to invest in sooner than later.  Also I don’t usually wear makeup unless I’m
going out.  This article from Allure 5 Genius Makeup Tricks For Glasses-Wearers is great. I will make use of my eyelash
curler that has been collecting dust in my drawer. Stat!
Recipe of the week:
This week I have two. First it’s the Go Fit Gals Clean Eating Salad. The second
is Twice-Baked Spaghetti Squash from Kalyn’s Kitchen.  Now this is a clean eating meal! Perfect for date night!
This is where I usually
put my 3 favorite workouts for the week. Because I was sick, I didn’t work
out.  I did continue with the Do You Yoga Meditation Challenge. I look forward to those 10 minutes every day!
Make sure to check
out my review of the Derma Roller System.
Dates to Remember:
The Go Fit Gals are
having another webinar on Feb 17. This time it’s about Fitness and Menopause. Sign up
here!
Also Feb 17 is Fat Tuesday which means Lent begins on Feb 18. I’m thinking about giving up meat. Also thought about giving up coffee, but that’s not happening.

March 1st– I will begin the Do You Yoga 14
Day Yoga Shred

This Week In Beauty, Fitness & Health: February 2-6, 2015

This week I read some interesting articles including one on
how to sculpt muscles faster. I’ve been trying to do more strength training and
vary my weights. I’m such a cardio junkie. I did manage to get two strength
training workouts in this week. Yay me!

This article on how to stop the after dinner cravings had
some great tips. I’ve been increasing my protein intake and drinking tea in the
evening. A couple of other things that work for me are brushing my teeth and
living in a three story house. After climbing those stairs all day, I don’t
want to go down anymore. Not even for a piece of cake! LOL

Another great article on how artificial sweeteners are evil.
Artificial sweeteners are in so many products nowadays. It’s difficult to keep
them out of your diet and they can cause weight gain. Check out the article
here.

Getting ready to spring ahead with some rosy lipstick
shades. You can see the lovely shades here. I’m going hunting for a couple of
them soon! Also one of my favorite beauty bloggers Afrobella just released
her 2015 Beauty and Health Trends Forcast.

Beyonce has done it again and is starting a vegan food delivery service. It’s plant-based and I’m really curious about it.  For the 22 day plan it’s about 99.00. Not a
bad price.

I’m still using the Derma Roller and really excited about
writing the review. Began the Do You Yoga 30 Day Meditation Challenge. Every
time I complete a meditation I post it to my Facebook page. Let me know if you’re
doing it too! I also started the Belly Burn Challenge.I receive a belly burn workout every other day along with diet tips.

Recipe of the week is the one from PJ one half of the Go Fit Gals. It’s a pretty simple recipe. Just roasted vegetables, Parmesan cheese and baked tofu. Here’s the pic and very easy recipe here

Here are my 3 favorite workouts of the week:

Go Fit Gals Total Body Strength Workout

40 Min. Sports Themed Tabata Workout-Millionaire Hoy

Fitness Blender’s Advanced Functional Strength, Balance and Core Workout

For the past few years, I’ve been doing online workouts. I
have neglected my 80+ workout DVDs. So I decided to do one a week and feature
it here.  Bob Harper Body Rev Cardio
Conditioning.  I actually reviewed it a few
of years ago and you can find that review here. Tough workout, but I’m
definitely stronger and have more endurance than I had five years ago.

Dates to remember:

I’ve been using the Derma Roller for a
couple of weeks now. I hope to have a review online Feb. 14.

Speaking of Feb 14, don’t forget the ones you love;-) Valentine’s Day!

March 1st– I will begin the Do You Yoga 14
Day Yoga Shred

Gettin’ Lean In 2014 Update: Week 12

Chicago! <3

Back from our holiday in Toronto and Chicago.  Well Toronto was a vacation/looking for a place to live.  We will be moving to Toronto in the summer.  Enjoyed my time there and ate at some great restaurants.  As a matter of fact while we were in Toronto we ate out for all of our meals.  The hotel didn’t serve breakfast.  So, I tried to make wise choices for breakfast and lunch and indulged at dinner.

Toronto

In Chicago we stayed with my mom so eating a clean breakfast was easy for me, but I did eat out several times and my mom did cook some of my favorite things for dinner.

In Toronto we didn’t walk as much as I thought we would because the real estate agent drove us around and it was so cold.  I did a couple of the Jessica Smith TV Hotel workouts. The 9 Minute Total Body Sculpting Workout and Hotel Room Cardio.  In Chicago I did do more walking, but once again it was unreasonably cold for March.

I’m sad because I lost my Fitbit somewhere between Chicago and Vancouver.  I will just get another one, but I feel naked without it. Anyway, I survived my vacation and they didn’t have to roll me on the plane because even though I enjoyed myself I didn’t go overboard.

The workout schedule for week 13 I’m starting the BodyRockTV 21 Day Bootcamp.  It’s similar to the 30 Real-Time Challenge, but now you have to purchase a guide for the burnout sections.  I will just stick to the Youtube workouts.  So far I like it.  I’ve been doubling up on the workouts to keep up.  It started on Monday and I started on Wednesday the day after we got back.

Here’s the schedule for week 13:

Wednesday:  21 Day Bootcamp Day 1
                     21 Day Bootcamp Day 2

Thursday:      21 Day Bootcamp Day 3
                     21 Day Bootcamp Day 4

Friday-Saturday: 21 Day Bootcamp Days 5 & 6

While in Chicago I ate at a place called Protein Bar a couple of times.  Healthy, delicious, high protein food with great service.  I highly recommend them!  There are several locations in the Chicagoland area, also Washington DC and Colorado. I had the Guac & Roll, the Spinach & Pesto Bowl, and the Bucktown Green Tea.  So many other things on the menu I wanted to try.  If we were there longer I know I would’ve gone back a few more times!

Gettin’ Lean In 2014 Update:Week 1

Happy New Year!  I started back slowly with the workouts this week.  I was back up to speed by Saturday.  No scheduled workouts just did what I felt like doing.

I finally decided what workout plans I will be doing this month.  I will begin with Jessica Smith’s 4 Week Weight Loss Plan and a 10 day Yoga challenge.. Then in mid-January the Mamavation 2 Week Challenge will begin.  So I will be doing those three challenges this month.   The challenges don’t include a diet plan so I will use the Go Fit Gals 6-Week Shape Up meal plan.

I’ve been making an effort to eat clean this week. I want to eat clean and stop using artificial sweeteners.  I stopped using them, but recently started using them again.  Old habits die hard.
After reading this article ( Artificial Sweeteners: A Good Idea?)  I was even more convinced that I need to stop using it.

Workout schedule for Week 2:  Jessica Smith 4-Week Weight Loss Plan & Erin Motz 10 Day Yoga Challenge

I will start posting my workouts and meals on my Facebook page as much as possible. Please feel free to connect with me there, Pinterest, on Twitter as GFGKelly or Dancingvalentin or on my blog. I would love to know what fitness and/or diet plans you are doing.  And if you’re participating in any of the challenges I’m doing please let me know;-)

Happy New Year From Beauty, Fitness & Health…Oh My!

This has been a great fitness year for me!  I have gotten leaner and stronger.  I’m still not where I want to be, but I’m a lot closer than I was at the end of last year.  I haven’t gained anything this holiday season.  It’s a Christmas miracle! I’m going to continue with the things I did in 2013.  Training dirty and eating clean (most of the time). For me eating clean 100% of the time isn’t realistic.  I’m more of an eating clean 80% of the time.  I would like to try to bump it up to 90% of the time.

Here’s my dilemma, there are so many things I want to do at the start of 2014 it’s making my head spin.  I know with my diet I will follow the Go Fit Gals clean eating plan, but for fitness there are so many choices!  Firstly, my gals the Go Fit Gals are doing the Flat Belly Bootcamp.  This will be the 3rd round of their GFGBootcamp.  The 1st two rounds were very successful.  You could lose at least 10 pounds in 21 days with the combination of great workouts and an easy to follow clean eating plan! Check out the other programs here! You can’t go wrong with any of them!

Then FitnessBlender.com is doing another round of their 8 Week Fat Loss Program.  I’ve done rounds 2 & 3 and really liked them.  They also have 4 week versions too!

BodyRockTV is starting  another 30 Day Challenge program.  I just finished their Real Time 30 Day Challenge.  It was really tough but effective.

JessicaSmithTV has a 4 Week Weight Loss Challenge. Many of her workouts are short and fun.

Finally Mamavation is doing another 2 Week Challenge.I’ve already signed up for this one and will do it with another fitness plan since it’s only two weeks.

This year I did exclusively internet workouts.  I feel like I’ve neglected my massive DVD fitness collection.  I will try to incorporate some of these workouts this year.

So many choices!  I will make up my mind in the next few days.  Let me know what you plan to do this year.  I want to hear from you!  Please feel free to connect with me on this blog or via Facebook and Twitter.  Here’s my info:@dancingvalentin or @GFGKellyFacebook.

Have a wonderful, prosperous and healthy New Year!

Final Ten For The Win Update Week 8

Really quick post because I’m super busy this week.  My dad is visiting from Chicago and then we will be returning to Chicago with him later this week.  Also, it’s the last week of school for the kids. Phew!  I am really pleased with what I accomplished during this Final Ten For The Win Challenge.  I didn’t lose 10 pounds. I did lose 10 inches overall from my arms, waist, hips and thighs.Including the 0.5 inches I lost off my arms and 0.5 inches off my thighs this week.  I lost 3 pounds during this challenge.  So, the total number of pounds lost since January was 15.  Not bad.  I really just wanted to lose 20 pounds.  I came very close. Kind of wished I started the Tonique and HIIT workouts earlier this year.  The inches really came off with that workout combo.

So I will just try to maintain this summer.  If I lose weight great, but the most important thing is to try to eat healthy 80% of the time and not go overboard.  My motto this summer will be ‘No Gain. Just Maintain.’ I will continue to workout in Chicago.  I have decided what DVDs I will be taking.  I will continue the HIIT workouts as well.

Here’s the workout schedule for No Gain. Just Maintain Week 1!

Monday & Wednesday: Bikini Bootcamp & HIIT run week 5

Tuesday: Tonique Premier  &  Cardio Challenge

Thursday: Off

Friday: HIIT run week 5

I will be very busy next weekend.  Don’t know if I will be able to get workouts in.  You can follow my progress on Twitter @dancingvalentin #NGJM

Final Ten For The Win Update Week 7

My time is quickly winding down.  Almost time to go home to Chicago for holiday.  This week life happened and I only did my HIIT run one time.  I wanted to run 3 times.  On the days I didn’t run I did Cardio Challenge from Supreme 90 Day.  I did more stretching this week and noticed that my body no longer felt tight.  My diet has been mostly fruits, vegetables, whole grains and I did have some fish this week.  For my post workout meal I’m using a new protein powder called greens+ Instant Smoothie a day.  It has greens and whey protein. It’s actually better than I imagined.  Sometimes I have it for lunch as well.

This past week I lost more inches.  I lost another half inch off my thighs.  And I haven’t measured my waist and hips for a few weeks because to be quite honest I was getting discouraged.  I wasn’t losing any inches from my hips and waist.  Well, I decided to measure them today and I’ve lost an inch off my waist and hips.  Very pleased with the results even though my weight is the same from last week.

This past week I’ve been trying to decide what workout DVDs to take to Chicago.  I have too many to choose from.  I have to remember that I won’t have as much space or access to heavy weights because we will be at my mom’s house.  The workouts I will take won’t require heavy weights. I will be using my own body weight.  I might slip some wrist weights into my suitcase.  I will continue with my HIIT workouts while in Chicago.  I’m getting ahead of myself.  We still have a couple more weeks in Vancouver.

For week 8 of FTFTW I will continue with Tonique and the HIIT runs and will step up the intensity. I will add Yoga Meltdown and will keep the Supreme 90 Day workouts for the days I cannot get outside.  This week I will do week 4 again of the HIIT run because I don’t feel comfortable moving on to week 5.

Here’s the workout schedule for week 8!

Monday: Tonique Premier  & HIIT run week 4

Tuesday &Thursday: Sculpt Dynamics disc 2 & Tonique 2 disc 1

.Wednesday & Friday: Sculpt Dynamics disc 1 & HIIT run week 4
Giving away 4 copies of Sculpt Dynamics on my review blog The Elements of Review.

Saturday: Tonique 2 disc 2 & Cardio Challenge

Sunday: Stretch DVD from X-TrainFit & Yoga Meltdown

Ways to Sculpt Your Body Naturally

There
are so many different pills to take and exercise routines advertised to
help you lose weight and sculpt your body. However, most of these
highly advertised plans are just another way to make money, and they can
actually hurt your body in the long run. It is important keep your
internal body healthy as you make the outside look better. No pills or
extreme exercise plans are needed in order to do this. It is just a
question of sticking to a plan and giving it your all. Here are some of
the best ways to sculpt your body naturally.
Concentrate On Diet
If
most people fall off their exercise plans and give up, it is because it
is extremely hard to stick to a healthy diet. One craving can throw off
a whole day of training and resisting temptations. Our bodies crave
these sugary or fatty treats, and now that they are plentiful, we must
depend on our own self-control in order to do what is right for our
bodies. By simply concentrating on keeping a healthy, low-fat diet
consisting of a balance among fruits, vegetables, carbohydrates, and
protein, you can start to lose fat and to concentrate on gaining muscle.
Routine Exercise
Adding
on muscle is one of the most crucial aspects of sculpting a body.
Exercise is the only way to do this and there are no healthy shortcuts.
Add in some body weight workouts every day at the same time and it will
become routine. The exercise may even become entertaining or stress
relieving after awhile. Be sure to vary your workouts.
Cardio
Cardiovascular
workouts are a great way to improve the condition of your body
naturally, and they can also be a great way to let off some steam.
Running is the most popular form of cardio, as it can be done anywhere
at anytime. This will strengthen your legs and your core, and it will
improve your endurance over time. Another great cardio workout is
swimming. Swimming can strengthen the muscles of every part of the body,
and it burns an immense amount of calories. Swimmers often have some of
the most aesthetically pleasing bodies — this is thanks to their
workout routines.
Sports
Playing
a sport can be the most fun way to sculpt a body naturally. Whether it
is basketball or ultimate frisbee, all sports can improve endurance and
add on muscle over time. Join a team — find an activity you enjoy, and
simultaneously reap the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle.
Having a team of people who are also encouraging you and working out
with you is the easiest way to stay committed to getting fit.

Arnold Dawson loves basketball and running cross-country, and he is a contributing author at www.lifeinsurancequotes.org.
